“Kragtal! This is one of the most ridiculous musicals you’ll ever see. It’s like classic musical theater combined.” [style] It’s kind of like Rodgers and Hammerstein, but this is a monster story,” said Chris J. Handley, director of Cragter!. The American Monster Musical runs from April 21st to May 20th at the Alleyway Theater.
This spooky, zany musical adventure was written by Kyle Wilson (music, lyrics, co-author) and Sam French (co-author) has its regional premiere this week at the Alleyway Theater in downtown Buffalo.
“The music is so great… Kyle wrote really great music and it sticks in your mind and those are the songs you can’t stop singing and humming,” Handley shared. “And I think that’s what drew me to this piece in the first place.”
Kragtal’s Conspiracy! American Monster Musical on the Alleyway website is:
An ancient prophecy is about to come true, as monsters like Godzilla appear, America is devastated by blood and tears and the devastation of Chick Fears trampled, and the government is on the verge of shutting down once again. Scientists and ex-lovers Harry and Harvey must reunite to save their country and perhaps rekindle their love, while facing the fearsome Kragtal in battle. But unbeknownst to our heroes, a much larger monster may be lurking in the shadows, ready to swallow all of America.
Handley has assembled the most powerful men in Buffalo to bring Kragtal to life. “I’m so impressed with this cast. They work so hard. They’re so talented.” [Everyday] They are very good at bringing new jokes and funny things into the story…that really impressed me during rehearsals. They bring it every day and everyone gets a star moment and that’s what I love [this show]”
Handley has high hopes for Kragtal! “If you need a laugh, this is the show for you. It’s not full-blown theater.”
“This season of Alleyway, Kragthal included, has been a story about people trying to find and discover themselves, because two scientists trying to find and discover themselves, and on the way they find themselves fighting this Godzilla-like monster with Sunday school kids at Chick-fil-Ay, because that’s where the monster is attacking.
“It’s utter nonsense. It’s silly, happy nonsense.”
