The Better Lovers, an all-star group featuring members of Dillinger Escape Plan, Every Time I Die, and Fit For An Autopsy, performed last night (July 13) in Buffalo, NY, home of ETID. had its first show. In addition to cuts from their debut EP, Better Lovers also jammed a cover of Soundgarden’s classic “Rusty Cage.”
Former Every Time I Die guitarist Andy Williams opened the set. The musician and professional wrestler said of the end of ETID and the beginning of Better Lovers (as transcribed by Ramgort):
“How many people here have been in the same room as me like this?” Williams said. “During the last 23 years, many people, many feelings together, right? We mourned people, we mourned deaths. We were happy together, we were sad together.” We have felt a lot together.
“You know, it’s difficult. It’s probably going to be a little emotional. It’s perfectly normal, but the last time we were all in the room, we didn’t know we were going to mourn. And now we’re forming a band.’ It’s coming to take it. You don’t have to think about that. That is a thing of the past. It was great, I had a lot of fun. Had a great time, got it? There’s one thing that’s different in that world is resurrection, band kick ass after band kick ass. “
“Now we have a new favorite band. We can follow this band to feel it all again. So everyone, please attend today. Please understand that you are looking at something very special for someone who is “our.”
“Three of my best friends are here to destroy you.
“And I am so happy to be here for this. motherfucker.
“So please, please, please, be there. Feel it. Have a great time. And here we are, about to witness our new favorite fucking band, Better Lovers!”
“They’re leaving soon, let’s go!”
Better Lovers opened with “Become So Small” and its title track. God made me an animal EP. Contains two unreleased originals after a few more songs. — “You probably know this song,” said vocalist Greg Pushiato before Better Lovers entered “Rusty Cage” (24:42 in the video). After the Soundgarden cover, the band closed out with “30 Under 13,” presenting his historic 30-minute performance to fans gathered in his room in Buffalo.
