BUFFALO, NY — Summer is here. There are many things you can do without spending a fortune.
Taking a guided tour of Tift Nature Reserve with family and friends is just one of the many free activities you can enjoy in western New York.
This summer, Independent Health will once again partner with the reserve to host an annual wellness walk.
A tour guide leads you on one of five trails. It usually takes 1-2 hours to complete. Fred Rogent is one of his many volunteer tour guides. He has lived in this reserve for over ten years. Like any guide, he will tailor the tour to your age group, interests, pace, and any other questions you may have.
“Exercise, especially walking, is a huge benefit for everyone. Anyone can do it,” said Lauren Diugosz, health and wellness program manager at Independent Health.
Independent Health provides health care products and benefits to guide consumers to health and well-being. Their mission is to make healthy activities accessible to everyone in their community.
Wellness walks are held every Thursday morning at 10am. The reserve is located on Furman Boulevard in Buffalo. If you plan to attend one of their walks, you must call 716-825-6397 to confirm the walk will be held. The event is free, but a donation of $3 per person is requested.
As well as guided tours, Tift Nature Reserve offers camps, workshops and classes. Many of their events are free.
