Multi-talented and creative, Richie Hunter is the owner of Richie Hunter Customs, a Buffalo hatter specializing in custom hats and leatherwork.
Before starting his career in Buffalo, Ritchie studied industrial design and minored in accessory design at SCAD. After school he immediately moved to Brooklyn to master the craft of hats and organize art and music events. After living in New York, he returned to his native Buffalo to resume his career and reach new audiences with his own designs.
Richie Hunter Customs focuses on the goal of creating products that truly express who they are and bring out their inner creativity. He meets with all of his customers to assess what their passions and goals are and make sure the product represents them. Ritchie realized that the wrinkles and blemishes on a hat tell the story of the wearer, and as the hat ages it becomes even more valuable.
Richie also has a great talent for jewelry making, leather work and clothing design. His leatherwork takes many forms, including handmade shoes, bags and belts. Leather is a material that Ritchie enjoys working with because it has a timeless appeal even after many years of use. Responsible sourcing and sustainability play a big role in his design process, as the materials he uses are part of his art. To reduce waste and use materials responsibly, Ritchie incorporates a lot of patchwork and repurposed fabrics into her clothing designs.
Richie’s designs will be shown at the first exhibition fig fashion show [fig – fashion’s initial garment], Saturday, September 30, at Senecawan Tower. His clothing, along with eight other designers, Fearless Fashion Night. Tickets for the show go on sale for his August 1, 2023.
