Over a decade ago, Been Friend set out to create an instrumental album inspired by ’70s western soundtracks, traditional mariachi and Latin music. The result was LA CHACHALACA, a fragment of Morricone his style of spaghetti western, traditional Mexican mariachi music and Cuban dance rhythms distilled to perfection.
To further express the charm of the album while engaging fans in the process, Been Friend set out to find the perfect look for his project. He commissioned a Stitch Buffalo craftsman to embroider the custom Charo suit seen on the album cover.
“I just started a mariachi/spaghetti western/Cuban project called La Chachalaca,” Bean said. “This is an instrumental project influenced by Ennio Morricone, Buena Vista Social Scene, and Mariachi El Bronx. I made a suit and they did a great job.”
Been Friend will be hosting an album listening party at Watu Cantina in Duende on Friday 21st July from 9pm to 11pm. Western clothes are also recommended!
Participation is free.
