The National Weather Service issued numerous flash flood warnings for all of New York state on Sunday afternoon. New York’s governor warned drivers to be smart and safe on flooded roads, as the humidity was perfect for heavy rain.
The summer of 2023 will be remembered as the hottest summer in recent memory. Millions of people are facing record heat not just here in New York State, but across the United States. Parts of the southwest face a heat range in the 110s.
But when it rains very hard, the streams and ditches can’t keep up and the roads fill up with water and become unsafe.
If it’s not heat and humidity, it’s smoke. I’m outside over the weekend and the sun is out but obscured by smoke from wildfires burning in Canada.
Earlier this week, an air quality warning will be issued for much of western New York. If you have trouble breathing, it’s best to stay indoors or wear a mask. I love running a few miles each day, but the smoke certainly made it a little harder.
