Allen Street is very lively these days. A new townscape has been created, and new businesses are born one after another and are developing. And the home center was also opened.
The Roaring Spring Home quietly opened at 19 Allen Street, right next to Petal Pusher and across from the recently opened 26 (formerly Cathode Ray).
The owner, Lydia Beebe Safulko, has been collecting vintage furniture and home décor for years and enjoyed it so much that she eventually decided to make a living out of it. Sufrco initially established her place in her formal business environment at Hiraith House (Delaware 501 – Cooperative of Small Businesses). When 19 Allen Street recently became available, Lydia jumped at it.
“I love the atmosphere here. It’s a fun part of town,” she exclaimed.

Inside, you’ll find a mix of vintage items such as chairs, tables, lamps, artwork and glassware with modern touches such as locally made vintage vessel candles. The space is well put together, welcoming and bright. The Roaring Spring Home is a great addition to the neighborhood’s growing retail scene and a great place for residents (like me) looking for unique items to decorate their homes with.
It’s an inspiring success story to watch Sufrco grow from an incubator location to a full-fledged business in Allen. Plus, having a home improvement store on the street is exactly the kind of business we wanted.
There’s a lot of synergy and camaraderie in Allentown right now, and it gets better with each new business opening. It is always important to have a good combination of shopping and dining services. Thankfully, this new convergence of businesses will see more people frequenting the district this summer, and all year round for that matter. The easier the streets are to walk, the better for everyone, business owners and residents alike.
The Roaring Spring Homes Grand Opening Day Celebration will be held on Thursday, June 8th from 5-8pm. Many local artists will perform and exhibit their work at this event. Sufrco will also participate in the upcoming First Friday Gallery Walk, which will feature rotating artists from the region.
