Popular attraction returns for third season, historic canals transformed for roller skating, from 11 August to 29 October
Buffalo Waterfront Management Group (BWMG) announced that roller skating will return on Friday, August 11th. The Canalside Roller Rink will once again offer its popular group skating and party he packages in addition to its regular opening hours daily. The site will also feature an activity zone with pop-up games, activities and party tents.
“We are proud to host a variety of fun activities throughout the year and look forward to another season of roller skating here at The Waterfront,” said Lauren Moloney Ford, General Manager of Buffalo Waterfront. “Last year the rink drew about 10,000 people from across the region and beyond, and we look forward to even more new offerings this year.”
The Canalside Roller Rink is sponsored by WNY’s Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.

Canalside Roller Skating is growing year after year as New York State’s largest outdoor roller rink right here on the Buffalo waterfront. “
With support from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation and the Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, Buffalo Waterfront will distribute free skate passes and skate rental passes to Buffalo public and charter schools, as well as local nonprofits. Schools and non-profits interested in visiting the rink can request tickets via email. [email protected]. The rinks and activity zones are also open for school excursions.
The Open Day celebration on Friday, August 11th will feature DJs and games.
Other special events include:
√ Themed Skate Nights every Friday
√ “Fitness on Wheels”: 2 skate dance class sessions every 4 weeks on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm
√ Learn to Skate: Two sessions (4 weeks) of Learn to Skate classes with 716 Rollers instructors on Saturdays from 12pm to 2pm
√ Special Events: AmeriCAN Skate Jam and Health & Wellness Expo – August 18-20. “Back to School Saturday Skate” with giveaway of backpack and school supplies – August 26th. Indigenous Peoples Day – October 9th. And “Spooless Halloween” – October 28th.
Admission to the Canalside Roller Rink is $6 for adults and $2 for children 13 and under. Patrons can bring their own roller skates or rent them for $4. The use of roller blades inside the rink is prohibited. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield members receive $1 off admission and skate rentals.
Paddle boat and pedal boat rentals are available through July 30th. Several options remain for tourists who want to spend time on the water this summer. Water Bikes of Buffalo and BFLO Harbor Kayak offer water sports rentals in Canalside, and Longboards Paddle and Pedal Co offer kayak, personal watercraft and paddleboard rentals at Wilkeson Point on the Outer Harbor.
