BUFFALO, NY (WKBW) — A day of peace will take place in Buffalo this weekend.
The event is called “Remember Us” and is a fundraiser for the Save Our Youth Foundation. The organization has been established for about 10 years.
It’s all about helping young people and adults reach their potential instead of succumbing to violence, addiction and mental health issues.
Save Our Youth founder and director Truletta Williams said the goal of Saturday’s event is to remember those who lost their lives to COVID-19, street violence, mass shootings, suicides, fentanyl overdoses and the recent blizzard.
Organizers are inviting fire and police chiefs to join them in celebrating the event.
“This event is truly a day of peace, a day of happiness, love people, say thank you, and thank you just for being there for each other. I’m giving you presents. I’m going to do a sack race. I’m going to do an obstacle course. I believe in fitness, so please get your mind, body and soul in order,” Williams explained.
The event will be open to all families on July 22nd from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm until prizes run out, at Broderick Park, 1170 Niagara St., Buffalo, NY 14213.
It brings together speakers, artists, DJs, vendors and food. Our co-sponsor, Pig Belly Entertainment, will provide bumper cars, ziplines, bounce houses, concessions and games.
Fireworks on the water will be launched at the end of the event.
“We want to meet the families we have now and give them unconditional love. Our goal is to hold a celebration of life that celebrates the health and mental health of all people. Our focus is on raising money to support economic growth by providing jobs, running programs, and opening the first youth development center. Our goal is to reach $150,000 to implement these programs for our youth and obtain a building to host our events and goals.” said in a press release.
