Truck crashes into low viaduct in Westchester
The Westchester County Police Department shared on its Facebook page that a truck traveling on the northbound lane of the Sawmill River Parkway struck a Bedford Road overpass in Pleasantville. The accident cut off traffic on Wednesday afternoon and caused significant delays in the area.

A photo posted by Westchester Police shows a permit sign directly in front of the bridge, clearly reading “8’8”. Police said the truck illegally parked at the sawmill was 13 feet tall.
More vehicles hit this bridge than any other bridge in New York State
Believe it or not, there are bridges in the same area that have been hit more times than the one in Pleasantville.
The bridge that Hatch becomes Merritt Parkway on the border of Live Brook, New York, and Greenwich, Connecticut, has been hit more times than any bride in New York state, according to The Greenwich Time. The Times reported in 2019 that the bridge had been hit almost 150 times in just 10 years.
This does not include some of the more recent crashes since 2019. The truck, which was carrying butter, burst into flames after crashing into a bridge on King Street in October 2014.

In recent years, actions have been taken to install more warning signs on the surface of the King Street bridge and to install more signs on Interstate 287 warning of trucks entering Hutchinson Parkway. But in 2021, vehicles will hit bridges at least 344 times in New York state, according to data collected by the state Department of Transportation and the Highway Administration.
